BioNutritional Care - Offering Hope
By Dr Renee Tocco

Autism Spectrum Disorders are the greatest healthcare challenge facing the children of America.  The only shred of light is that all across the country, an incredible number of parents are reporting that has improved or recovered from autism.  It is saddening that thousands of parents have not heard that hope for improvement is possible.  Even more devastating is that most healthcare providers do not properly address the physiological needs of children suffering on the spectrum, nor do they even understand the underlying injuries that can lead to autism. Parents are often given no hope and no direction.

I want you to imagine a world where there are qualified physicians in every city who know how to identify the early signs of ASD.  Imagine that every parent had access to a physician who would individually analyze each child for underlying physiological and biochemical issues.  What if there were an abundant number of health care providers that understood the delicate relationship between diet, supplements, various therapies and the autism community?

When I imagine the world like that I realize it is only a matter of time.  This revolution is driven by parents who are learning about autism care possibilities and then finding the doctor to help them.  I personally know parents who have driven across multiple state lines for care.  For many parents, when it comes to helping their child, there are no limits.

A few years ago, the autism epidemic became so real to me that to this day, people mistake me for the parent of a child on the spectrum.  Until the reality of autism came knocking on my door, I was like most Americans - oblivious to the silent epidemic that is stealing a substantial part of a generation of children.  In retrospect, I suppose I was always destined to dedicate my life to this field.  In the late 1970s my parents began to research childhood vaccines and made the educated choice to not vaccinate.  Even then, they predicted our society would witness first-hand the consequences of a theory implemented without the science to validate its safety and efficacy.  But never did they imagine the illness of autism spectrum disorders, which now shadow the lives of millions of American families.

While those on the spectrum suffer with sometimes debilitating deficiencies, such as nutritional and immune, the whole country seems to suffer with an equally worrisome deficiency - of education, resources and hope.  It is this deficiency that causes parents to not know about, or be reluctant to try therapies and treatments that have been reported by thousands of other parents to have improved or even recovered their child from autism.  I recently heard of a doctor in my hometown telling parents to be aware of healthcare professionals that recommend the GFCF diet.  As little as one poisonous statement from a “trusted professional” can erase recovery from a child’s future.  Thank God for parents who refuse the grim prognosis and search for truth.

It is a crime that parents are deterred from some of the most effective treatments and deprived of all hope.  All for the sake of protecting the claim that autism is genetic and not physiologically based.  There is an obvious plot to deter all attention from the environmental causes; might these causes be incriminating?  Instead medicine as a whole makes blanket statements and repeats the same rhetoric time and again.  If you tell a lie enough times, even you believe it is real and America seems to be under this dangerous spell.  Yes, I am afraid we have an epidemic of ignorance and denial and the victims are the innocent children of our country.

After extensive training and the honor of working with incredible mentors, I founded the American Chiropractic Autism Board (ACAB).  When I learned what was possible for those suffering on the spectrum, I was immediately awestruck that I had been through 8 years of education and had never learned this incredible information… and ASD is the healthcare crisis of the century! It became my ultimate goal, as a mother and healthcare provider, to do everything in my power to disseminate this information.  I want this science to change the curriculum in colleges and universities.  I decided to make an impact on my own profession.

The ACAB has an ever-growing panel of advisers who oversee Hope For Autism, a BioNutritional Care Training Conference.  Our goal is educate chiropractic physicians and the general public about prevention and responsible care for autism.  I truly believe that chiropractors, as primary health care physicians, are destined to change the world of autism.  Chiropractors receive a doctorate degree after an approximate eight years of school and an internship.  However, the profession has one unique characteristic:  it is the largest non-drug healing profession in the world.  Pharmaceutical companies, driven by profit, don’t have the ability to slip their greedy fingers into our scope of practice to affect treatment.   Chiropractic education focuses heavily on normal body function, nutrition, detoxification, healing and restoration... and this is the prescription that children on the spectrum desperately need!  Bionutritional Care utilizes diagnostic tools and methods of testing to determine the underlying physiological causes of symptoms particular to an individual suffering with a disease or condition.  These underlying physiological conditions include, but are not limited to, chronic fungal, bacterial, viral or parasitic infection, nutritional deficiency, food and inhalant allergies, heavy metal toxicity, systemic inflammation, and immune system deficiencies.  Then, with a focus on natural and non-invasive treatments and modalities, an individual's fundamental diagnoses are addressed with methods that have been shown to be effective.

The ACAB’s goal is to train thousands of chiropractors to offer hope for recovery throughout the nation.  If you know a chiropractor in your area, please encourage them to come to Hope for Autism so they can bring this care to your community.  Parents have been so influential in the development of autism care and now it’s time to get doctors up to speed.

It is unfair that mothers across the country are left to spend hours on end, frantically searching the internet and reading books, trying to find the answers they desperately need.  Many physicians just don’t know what they don’t know.  It is time to strongly encourage the healthcare providers in this country step up to the plate and learn how to help this huge community of children that are in desperately need.

ACAB was founded by two mothers whose passionate mission is to save children.  We are on your side and we are committed to focusing only the greatest good for those affected by ASD.   I will conclude with this quote, which definitely applies to autism:

“The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.”   Albert Einstein
